HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Huntington is getting nearly $3.2 million from the federal government for housing and community development programs.

Rep. Nick Rahall says the funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will allow Huntington to expand its housing programs and services.

The funding includes more than $2 million to provide housing and expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income families. Another $92,296 will be used to improve the number and quality of homeless shelters.

its a waste of money huntington's city gov will spend it on higher pay for themselves and not improving the city

Posted by: How much LOCAL MATCH required? on Aug 8, 2008 at 12:28 PM
yes, BUT, how much $$$$$$ of TAXPAYER money AND/OR CITY money will be required to MATCH these federal funds? usually an 80/20% or 75/25% meaning 80 or 75% comes from Feds/State perhaps and 20/25% from LOCAL/CITY funds which means folks, YOUR taxpayer $$$$$ are used for these programs SO be sure what you're paying for. You're allowed to go to various places where the grant application is required by HUD laws to be on public display AND even after that, the public has the right to go to these agencies & request to see the FULL application including all ADMINISTRATIVE costs for overhead, salaries/benefits, travel, meetings etc required to "administer" these grants. BE INFORMED HUNTINGTON RESIDENTS and ALL GRANT RECIPIENTS before you get all yeah team on these things It's YOUR money that is used for that "local" match so be sure you know where your $$$$$ is going! You have that right so check them all out BEFORE pgm starts & if youre aware BEFORE the app's sent in

Great! Now all the people who dont work and get HUD can live in EVEN nicer places then the people who do work and try to do things the right way

that is great!!! these people who think they are doing such great deeds are so oblivious to the fact that these people who are taking advantage of the system are sitting back laughing and using these resources so they dont have to maintain a descent and hardworking lifestyle. this is also an injustice to the community because you welcome more crime and provide a place for alot of these people with lengthy criminal backgrounds to sleep. when is west virginia and more so the federal government going to wake up and stop blaming democrats or republicans for our economic woes and see that it is all of our fault. i have an idea, lets provide funds to help small businesses and attract large business to the tri state area instead of attracting a people who knows how to use and abuse the system. i am not a rocket scientist and i seem to see the big picture and it took all of 2 min to come up with this idea so why cant the government? JULIO VASQUEZ FOR PRESIDENT 2008 !!!
