KENOVA, W.VA. (WSAZ) – It’s not the Bird’s Nest in Beijing, but it was the closest thing Saturday afternoon in Kenova, where there were all types of Olympic themed events going on.
Dreamland Pool hosted it’s first H2Olympics this Saturday.
Maybe so many people are into the Olympics and they’re staying up too late to watch it, because the only team that accepted the City of Kenova’s challenge was Team WSAZ.
Mayor Ric Griffith still knows how to put on a show, though.
First it was the presentation of the H2Olympics custom flag presented by the youth of Kenova, then Dick Griffith handing off the “torch” to Kenova natives Hanna Francis and Dave Benton.
And Team WSAZ is proud to report they medaled in the beach volleyball tournament. Silver out of two isn’t bad.
Kenova’s mayor says despite the turnout, it’s something he wants to do again.
"We're actually looking into having different events on having on a regular basis here at dreamland, “ says Mayor Ric Griffith.
The “medals” they awarded players were made in China, so it all goes back to Beijing.

Well the only thing I enjoyed about that story was WSAZ's Brad Myers shirtless. Keep that up, and I'll keep watching!
