SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two restaurants in Putnam County are on the verge of being shut down.

Health inspectors have labeled the Dairy Queen on Teays Valley Road in Scott Depot and the Bob Evans at Liberty Square in Teays Valley as "repeat offenders." Inspection reports show both have recently had numerous critical violations--inspection after inspection.

At the end of July, WSAZ.com reported that the Scott Depot Dairy Queen had eleven critical violations. Then, when it was re-inspected on August 8th, inspectors found nine.

Some of the violations during the latest inspection include: no person in charge of food operations when the manager is not there, a dirty cutting board, and a moldy bag of cabbage heads on the counter.

At the Bob Evans, the health department made three visits in one week after too many critical violations came up during inspections.

Some of what they found include: dirty cutting boards, dirty food containers, dirty floors, and the inside of the ice cream machine was not clean.

The Putnam County Health Department says both restaurants are on track to meeting code, but they will be shut down if there are any future repeat critical violations. Inspectors tell us they will be doing more frequent inspections at these two places.

stop talking and shut it down

Really, when eating out, if we really knew what was going on behind the scenes, we wouldn't be there. If the Dining area and rest rooms are dirty, you can guarantee the kitchen is as well.

This is worse than an "insects" violation. Roaches are among the hardiest of insects & can enter a restaurant(or your home) by hiding in food containers such as potato sacks, bundles of paper bags, etc. Ants can enter any bldg. through unbelievably small places. And flies can enter any time someone opens the door. No sense in an inspector going ballistic about an occasional bug. There's simply NO EXCUSE for dirty equipment that's touched by food! They might as well not wash their dishes!

John trust me! you say Bob Evans is a clean place, yea it is from the outside and in the dining area but the kitchen is what counts! and of course thats what customers dont see. Im saying this cause I use to be a health inspector in VA and trust me I went into alot of nice places where there coolers were broke and they had ice laying on meat to keep it cool, I could go on for hours telling what all I saw.

Some of you folks must be too overly impressed with yourselves. This inspector seems a to have a bit of Barney Fife in them.

I've been a manager for over 10 yrs. in fast food and if you don't train the crew and treat them with respect this is what ya get! You get back what you put in. True these people don't make much anyway, And I have learned, a little respect not only for those that you work with, but those you serve, Goes A LONG WAY. These places need new management that consider these workers as people they work with, Not people that work for them. And has respect enough for the customers to serve them quality food in a clean restaurant. I would be ashamed to wear their uniforms right now.

that health inspecter needs to ease up. she is out to get everyone. those restaurant workers do more work in one hour than she does all week. shame on her.bob evans is as clean of a restaurant as i have seen. i have seen alot of dirty places and bob evans is certainly not one of them.

If this state sucks so much GET OUT!

I would like to see a state law/regulation requiring restaurants to prominently post their latest health department inspection results. Maybe color coded, such as green for no violations; yellow for minor violations; red for critical violations. It would alert the public of the restaurant's status so we could make a decision whether to eat there or not.

To "Scott Depot Resident">> Shame on you for stereotyping young people! To "I eat at home">> There is this GREAT movie called "Office Space" in which a young cube dweller is hypnotized into having a better outlook on life. He then gives a very in depth interviewer to a consultant in which he reveals the only incentive he has is to try hard enough to not get fired. Perhaps rewards for work and incentives are better motivators than more money.

I sure hope they don't close down. There will be nowhere left to eat in that area! Why isn't there a steak house or sit down restaurant in such an effluent area??

Teays Valley DQ employees a lot of High School students. We seldom see an adult working. We never order cooked food, just ice cream.

Apparently none of you have been restaraunt workers at the time of a health inspection. I'm not necessarily defending either establishment, but the term "critical" is a little overstated. I've worked in several restaraunts and seen health inspectors on "witch hunts." I guarantee you that dirty cutting board means it had lettuce on it that had just been cut. Moldy cabbage? How many times have you forgotten something in your refrigerator? I'm sure it would have never been served.

A restaurant found in critical violation should be given one day to correct it(How long does it take to clean a dirty cutting board or refrigerator?) and shut down for two weex & the owner(s) fined if a repeat of any such violation is found within a year after it's first found. The presence of any moldy food that could be served to a customer is simply unacceptable, & should be a cause for immediate punishment. THIS IS AMERICA! There's no reason why a public eatery should be allowed to get away with not following simple rules of common cleanliness & hygeine.

This all really falls back on the owner/managers of these establishments. But does anyone not expect this from these places? Who really thinks they go into places like this and people are giving it their all and 110% making minimum wage? They just do enough to get by and this time they were caught. Its not just these places its more. The others just know how to cover it up a little better. Pay some people a little more and you will get more and better service and a cleaner restaurant. This does not surprise me. I am only surprised other places were not caught also.
