UPDATE @ 11:12pm
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Apparently minding her own business, a 19-year-old Charleston woman was shot in the back -- in her own home.
She was in the hospital Thursday night, and Charleston Police are on the hunt for a shooter. The shooting happened before nightfall along a relatively quiet section of Quarrier Street. That's why neighbors say they're so shocked about the incident and on edge that the suspects are on the run.
"I heard a bang and then looked out the window and saw a couple of guys running across the road," said Shirley Witt. "We were sitting out on the porch eating dinner and we saw the police car go by."
The victim's husband was there at the time of the shooting. Police took him in for questioning, and he didn't waste time sending a message to whoever pulled the trigger.
"Whoever shot my wife, I’m gonna kill you," he said.
But police don't know who shot the woman or why, and they're not sure if she even knew her attacker. That is leaving this normally quiet East End neighborhood on edge.
"I'm shocked because this is such a great neighborhood," Charleston Police Sgt. S.A. Copper said. "We don't really see much of this. It is unusual."
Neighbors know it's something that can happen anywhere, but still they're holding out hope this is the last crime that hits home.
And police are still looking for the suspects: investigators believe up to four men are in a white Pontiac Grand Prix. They sent out a description of the car to officers throughout the region.
The condition of the woman who was shot is not being released.
UPDATE @ 7:48pm
Police say they're looking for a white 2-door Pontiac Grand Am, possibly a 2002-2004 model with 2 to 5 men inside.
UPDATE @ 7:46pm
Police tell our crew at the scene that the victim has been rushed to the hospital, and they're still looking for the suspect.
