MOREHEAD, KY (WSAZ) – A 74-year old woman has been killed in a car crash in Elliott County.

Kentucky State Police say Charletta Montfort of Sandy Hook died in the single car accident. It happened near the intersection of KY 7 & KY 557 around 9:30 Thursday night.

Troopers say Monfort lost the control of her car, hit an embankment, before striking the guardrail. She was flown to a Huntington hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say she was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the car was hurt; 70-year old Norma Monfort was taken to a Huntington hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Any one who knows Charletta (Sherry) knows that she has been taking chemo treatment for a year now. She had just recieved blood at the hospital in Morehead, the hospital tried to get Sherry to stay the night, but she refused. Witnesses and her sister both saw Sherry slump at the wheel just before leaving the road. Sherry was a member of our church for over twenty years and until getting sick sang every Sunday. She will be missed, our lost will be Heaven's gain.

I got to know the sisters, while working in Sandy Hook. Both very sweet ladies. My sympathy goes out.
