HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- More than $1 million worth of marijuana was confiscated in Putnam County.

A tip from the public helped deputies arrest Zachariah Husiar.

Investigators say he admitted to growing more than 500 marijuana plants along Big Creek Road, which is south of Hurricane.

Husiar is now in jail.

The location is actually in Putnam County. The Putnam/Lincoln line meets on Harvey Creek, which leads to Big Creek. Big Creeks goes back into Lincoln County, but this specific location is Putnam. I've lived here for over 30 years and know the location. However, I don't know the guy, only heard of him. I'm not concerned about his plants. What I'm concerned about it the meth lab that was busted down over a year ago on Harvey Creek, in Putnam County. Charges were dropped both times on the same guy who was caught twice with meth and meth labs. The second time they caught him making it. He had one working lab, and one or two in a car trunk that was ready. Both times Lincoln County arrested him in Putnam County. They knew better after the first dismissal. He is scott free, all charges just dismissed. And we are worried about a guy growing weed. How ironic.

This kid actually had a job, and I agree 100% that tax dollars and cop labor could be going towards something bigger than this like pimps and HARD drug dealers, and murderers and break ins.

Posted by: OUTLAW on Sep 9, 2008 at 07:13 PM
THEY WILL NEVER LEAGAIZE IT BECAUSE LOOK AT HOW MANY POLICE AND JAIL WORKERS WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB...LOL...AND JUST THINK HOW ALL THAT TAX $$$$$$ COULD BE PUT TO GOOD USE!!!! JUST THINK AT THE KILLERS ,BABY RAPERS AND PPL LIKE THAT COULD BE OFF THE STREETS...BUT TOKING IS WORST ,I THINK GET REEL PPL IF YOU DONT BELIVE ME ...NAME SOMEONE THAT HAS DIED FROM JUST SMOKING BUD..OTHER THING ALONG WITH IT YES ,JUST BUD I DONT THINK YOU CAN..ITS OUR TAX $$$$$$ SPEND IT ON SOMETHING BESIDES FIGHTING BUD....

If you see someone playing a game of pool does that make them a pool shark? sometimes..

Posted by: charleston on Sep 9, 2008 at 01:56 PM
The golden boy Obama smoked also dont forget that. Its not only Palin.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 9, 2008 at 02:22 AM
Where in the world are you people getting your info at? you take things way out of line. 90% smoke pot and it shows.

Posted by: jd on Sep 8, 2008 at 06:30 PM
the law states that if you consume marijuana you are a criminal. Palin was a criminal just the same as all the people sitting in jail now for inhaling. thats the law right? it doesnt matter if she liked it, she did it. its a plant. scientists also say due to the mass eradication of plants such as marijuana and the poppy plant it is contributing to global warming. Zachariah Husiar, inshallah you will go free. if he were growing maneating flowers i could understand.

ONE MILLION DOLLARS wow, and it all fit in that little barral? This is sad because this boy never committed a crime in his whole life, not even a speeding ticket! He would have got away with it if he had just denied it. The drug unit is thirsty for money and they have to blow this up to a million dollars? They must have too many people and not enough money huh? If you said that was worth one hundred thousand it would still be an exaderation. The police force is too big for a small town like that. The police where from putnam county and the property is in lincoln county.., jurisdiction? If this bust is worth a million dollars then lincoln county is a gold mine because there are more growers than him and they grow way more, in lincoln county. He is 21. Do you really think there where 500 plants? Because I paused the video and counted about 30 at the most. This kid is the most honest, respectful, non-violent person I have ever met. He means no harm to anyone, it would have been for his use

Posted by: Beth Ann on Sep 8, 2008 at 04:53 PM
Sarah Palin ony smoked it in her youth and didnt even like it. Lets not bring her into this. Also I agree laws need to be changed. I know someone who couldnt even get help with assistance and a low income apartment because he had been in trouble before for drugs, but others could even them getting out of prison for murder or child molesters. They get more help than someone who got caught for drugs. I would rather love beside someone who does drugs than a child molester or murderer. Also before anyone says anything I do not do drugs nor ever have.

i know this guy. he is not a criminal. a good friend of mine. and a victim of some stupid petty drug war thats never getting better.

Posted by: freedom on Sep 8, 2008 at 03:20 PM
If you feel safer that this guy is in prison then you are a moron.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 8, 2008 at 02:32 PM
To JD Palin saied she smoked it but that was years ago and she just tried it and thats it. She was not an avid user and she is not for it. Infact that just gives her all the more reason to be against it because she even said it was WRONG and is WRONG and she would not make it legal. If you see someone playing a game of pool does that make them a pool shark? well she is not a pot smoker. If communists run the drug war why dont you leave this country and go some place where it is legal?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 8, 2008 at 01:51 PM
Hi Joe, Trust me, I am almost willing to bet that you work with someone that does smoke and you have no idea that they do. Why, because they are there at their jobs everyday. If it turns somebody into lazy worthless pieces of society, I would say that's because you were lazy before you smoked it and pot only intensified the laziness. The things that you are talking about closely resembles the alcoholics that I have met along the way. I got so tired of covering for some alcoholic b#%(# because she went out the night before and got jacked up and was to hung over to get out of bed or couldn't get her head out of the toilet long enough to get dressed. Yes, I am familiar w/ both and I would rather deal w/ a pothead than an alcoholic. Hell, I would rather smoke a big one than drink...

Posted by: jd on Sep 8, 2008 at 12:11 PM
another victim to the communists who run the drug war. its a plant. the dollar numbers are inflated so they can get bigger grants for next years budget. did u know Palin smoked it in Alaska??? you puritan socialists need to do some research.

Another thing that gets me hot on this issue is someone convicted of murder, theft, rape or fruad are still eligable for financial aid (fasfa) but if you are convicted of a drug crime your out of luck. Thats right no financial aid to drug offenders, the most non-violent class of criminal. Its pathetic, we need reform on our drug laws back to the pre-Carter days. "Just say no" spend the money on educating not incarcerating.

Posted by: Aaron on Sep 8, 2008 at 11:31 AM
It should be decriminalized. Write tickets don't put hippies and good ol' boys in prison. Use the money to stop the huge pill and crack problem. Why not use their eyes in the sky to bust crack dealers and fraudulent prescriptions. How many thefts occur by pot heads? Alot of the theft in my area is from crack and pill heads. And as for the alcohol comment, nobody wants people at work or driving high, the same goes for alcohol. And the reason they drug test is because the government offers financial rewards for the businesses that do (in the form of tax breaks).

Posted by: Aaron on Sep 8, 2008 at 11:08 AM
That's so bogus. If he had 500 plants half of them would have been males and worthless on the street. Then they are estimating each plant is a pound and that is hogwash too. It was really more like $150,000. I don't use drugs of any kind but I'm so tired of this pointless drug war. It has done nothing but cost us money and turn attitudes toward the police into a "us against them" mentality. Remember when the police wasn't out to bust people but were peace keepers.

Posted by: Amy on Sep 8, 2008 at 09:44 AM
I completely agree w/ Bob on Sep 7, 2008 at 06:03 PM. I know I, for one, do not want my son to ever smoke pot. I mean, have you actually seen some of the people who do smoke pot? 1/2 of the time they can't even carry on a conversation. Just because it comes "from the ground" does not mean that it is safe to use. If a person truly needs it for medicininal purposes, then fine, let them use it under strict supervision of medical personal.

Posted by: Joe on Sep 8, 2008 at 07:15 AM
Jon H. - I know who you are. You better take a good look in the mirror. You are a poster child for why someone should not smoke dope. So much wasted potential...

Posted by: Joe on Sep 8, 2008 at 07:12 AM
I was once a pot head. It wont kill you but it turns you into lazy worthless pieces of society. I have been there. I have never seen a useful pot head. Cant hold jobs, relationships, etc.

Every seed bearing plant...Just legalize it, it's natural-home grown...like everybody said get the stuff thats killing people off the street pot is to small to worry about trust me.

Posted by: Bob on Sep 7, 2008 at 06:03 PM
One thing is i really dont like people making money off something and it being tax free. Another is i dont see a lot of people smoke this tuff and go on to do greater things then to write a good song. another thing anything thats "good" that pot does they alreayd can or have used other legal drugs to do the same thing and better. and a lot of the people that do other crime smoke pot in thier free time. by the way when you bust people with pot you almost 90% of the time solve other crimes. i come home from work and read thsi and type. you pot smokers just type and dont work. it its so harmless then why do they test for it when you work at a job? becuase YOU CANT do your job after you smoke it. i really dont want someone driving a truck or a fork lift around me after they smoke some pot.

Krista, if you hate this pathetic state then pllleeeaaassseee leave. I hate when people get on here and put this state down. If you don't like it, then by all means move to a better place like Detroit...

"Researchers in Italy and Britain have found that the main active ingredient in marijuana — tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC — and related compounds show promise as antibacterial agents, particularly against microbial strains that are already resistant to several classes of drugs." This was featured in the New York Times. It's time to legalize it. Pot is not the scary drug that everyone makes it out to be. It actually holds many benefits and is relatively harmless compared to some of the harder drugs we face in our communities, even prescription medications. Legalize it already.

Stoners live and stoners die, but in the end we all get high, so if in life you don't succeed, **** it all and smoke some weed.

Posted by: Dennis on Sep 7, 2008 at 02:27 PM
POT HEADS DO SOMETHIN WITH YOUR LIFE INSTEAD OF WASTING IT ON SOMETHING POINTLESS LIKE A STUPID PIECE OF GRASS

Posted by: Donna on Sep 7, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Just freakin LEAGALIZE IT! ITS GREAT for sooooooooooooooooo many purposes! The cops need to leave well enough alone! They need to keep the harder stuff off the streets instead! And I don't even consider pot a drug because its a weed thats comes from the ground!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 12:39 PM
solve some murders, robberies and child crimes. leave pot growers alone.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 12:25 PM
The song says everbody must get stoned

I am sick and tired of my tax dollars being spent on pot bust.Go for the drugs, killers, thieves.Pot is not a drug,it's an herb.Alcohol is a drug,it kills people everyday.Legalize pot,and outlaw alcohol.Geez!!! I now have to go burn one now.Have a nice day.

Posted by: Jack on Sep 7, 2008 at 12:07 PM
While I don't agree with pot or alcohol, given a choice, I would ten times rather deal with a pothead than a drunk.

Posted by: Christa on Sep 7, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Nope! No news on Leah's death. Barney Fife is too busy-a-huntin' wacky weed. Manchin is a joke. Wv is a third world state. Pabst Blue Ribbon is the #1 beer and kids rub Skoal. Wv is pathetic.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 10:35 AM
I understand that people are looking for answers to Leah Hickman death but really what does this have to do with $1 Million Pot Off Streets?

Posted by: carl on Sep 7, 2008 at 09:26 AM
ohio had a 1200 plants bust for a million dollar value and now west virginia has a five hundred plant bust for million dollar value.west virginia pot must be twice as good.lol

Posted by: Jane on Sep 7, 2008 at 09:15 AM
A million dollars? Really? Maybe the poor guy was just trying to earn some gas money to go to a job he probably wont be able to find in West Virginia. But a MILLION DOLLARS, come on now.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 07:30 AM
Wow the Husiar's they used to live in Lincoln Co used to drive around in a old school bus that they lived it.. They had like 9 kids, this is one of the kids...they where always kinda weird,

Posted by: kyman on Sep 7, 2008 at 06:48 AM
yep, sounds like this may be drug related.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 04:30 AM
I don't see why it's illegal. God put it there for us, so why can't we use it?

Posted by: Jon H. on Sep 7, 2008 at 01:39 AM
I feel much safer now that this guy is in jail. Just think, he could have given someone cancer with these plants. He could have given the million of pots to unsuspecting kids. He could have even been a terrorist. Bush said that drugs help fund terrorism. His name is kind of Muslim sounding. Wonder if anyone running for office was involved. There are some sleeper terrorists in my opinion that may come out of the woodworks when a certain man gets elected. Elect the GOP and they will help protect us through stricter laws all for the common good. Yay government. All knowing and always looking out for our own good. Thank You.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 12:41 AM
i wonder if he knows that many pot plants is life in prison? he will never be out again.

Kid probly couldnt find a job and had to grow to suport himself

Posted by: my favorite herb! on Sep 6, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Just freakin leagalize it, It serves for many different purposes. Like upset stomach, and whatever else is ailing ya! Don't the cop's NEED to know when to leave WELL ENOUGH ALONE! Instead of gettin people for petty stuff like this the law needs to keep the killers off the streets and the hard-core drugs too,and start trying to solve cases!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2008 at 11:06 PM
YEA RIGHT OFF THE STREETS! THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD BE OFF THE STREETS IS IF THEY WOULD BURN IT RIGHT THERE WERE ITS AT.
