CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Council of Churches is urging Christians to pray and fast in advance of a court decision on a Boone County mining operation.

The group has designated Sept. 9 to Sept. 23 a time of fasting and prayer for a calm, peaceful resolution to the dispute, which has pitted the coal industry against environmental groups.

In October 2007, U.S. District Judge Chuck Chambers issued a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction prohibiting Jupiter Holdings from opening a new valley fill at its Callisto surface mine in Boone County.

The company's appeal of that order is scheduled to be heard in the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Sept. 23.

Leave the miners alone.. I agree with Ken just think what would happen to all the area businesses if they do decide against the miners.. coal is the only thing left in WV what is wrong with people... just because you are an electrician by trade if coal goes under you will also go under... the GOV has taken so many jobs away from the Americans and look at what is happening 6.1 unemployment...all the homes that people as lost... and now we have to pay for thanks to the GOV. I think we should close them all down give everyone what they want no jobs and see just how long we can last with out WWIII happening and that is coming sooner then people thinks.... there is not much more they can take from us....

I want to know how many of these environmentalists who are complaining about coal use the electricity in which coal produces. How many could not go without their computer, their lights or their running water. I've read the coal industry produces 95% of the state's electricity.

If I actually believed in prayer and spent the necessary time praying specifically about all things like this in our world that need a "guiding hand", I would never get anything actually accomplished.

DO THE PEOPLE IN THIS AREA REALIZE HOW CRITICAL THE COAL INDUSTRY IS TO THE TRISTATE AREA? NOT ONLY DO THE COAL MINERS LOSE THEIR JOB BUT ALSO THE MANY MANY BUISNESS THAT SUPPORTS THE COAL INDUSTRY. THIS STATE WOULD BECOME THE POOREST STATE IN THE UNITED STATES. THE TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT TO AREA BUSINESSES WOULD BE DEVASTATING

This is a coal county. I feel that the court will rule in the mines favor. What bothers me, is alot of these people complaining about mining are retired miners.. Excusing me.. but it put food on your table and cloths on your back for all these years. What's your problem now?? These men have to work too!!!

These groups better wake up fast!!!!!!! You would think history would have thought people NOT to mess with Coal Miners!!!!!! Look at which part of the state this is going on in; Do you remember the Mine Wars of the early 1920's? When Miners think there job and families are in trouble, they act hard and fast. I hope this WILL NOT happen in this case.
