HAMLIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Throughout the country Halloween has become second only to Christmas when it comes to spending money on decorations.

The house, the candy, the kids’ costumes -- you name it -- the trend is bigger and bigger every year.

But in Hamlin, W.Va., where the streets will be wall-to-wall with trick-or-treaters, they've been trying to encourage a little downsizing.

talking about trick or treat I'd rather see littles ones out getting candy then to see these BIG grow up adults out being mean & not caring about anything else if a grow up wants to go out for candy with kids or by their selfs then that's should be ok & if they want to crack down then crack down on drunk drivers & others that loves to things up & hurt others for no reason. it's stupid.

13yr olds are kids too and like candy.. just like a 17yr old does.. I think If a kids Is in school have at it..or should they be up 4 mile drinkin a beer instead..

I think everyone is missing the point. It's not about the candy, it's about the experience. It's about dressing up and having a good time. You take your kids (no matter what age), your dogs, and maybe even grandma---and you all spend the evening together checking out the decorated houses and costumed friends. One more thing to make kids grow up faster and not want to spend time with family. Not allowing the children to trick or treat will force them into other activities that will likely get them into trouble. Especially if the parents are out taking the younger ones trick or treating!

What's the difference ina 13 tr old going or a 3 month going? Some people bring out their newborns (even on a chilly night) and come right up to the door for candy. Put an age limit under 1 or over 12...that makes more sense. Anyway there's not much to do in the "sticks of Hamlin" so why wouldn't you just let anyone trick or treat?!

i have to say that i personally dont trick or treat for myself being that im 30. I do take my daughter though.. i love it and i think that putting an age limit on people who are able to trick or treat is not right.. when i take my daughter we are accompanied by some people who are "older,by age (referring to looks)", but not in their mind.. it is unfair for people who have a disablity to be put out for some simple fun thats not hurting anyone.. please understand all people who look like adults dont always have the mind of adults!! trick or treat should be for anyone who wants to go as long as the rules are applied.. such as not being mean to the others, mind your manners, and take your turn... these people are out for just some simple fun...

I think kids just can't be kids anymore. No child should be turned away. If a 13 year old wants to dress up and trick-or treat I think that's great. There are a lot worse things they could be getting into.

I love going on trick or treating.Im 24 and i still dress up and do it.My mom is in her 40's and still dresses up and goes and takes the grandkids with her.So I think no matter what age you are as long as you can dress up and still have fun doing it then go for it.You only live once so have fun while you can.To all the parents and grandparents who are takeing kids out this year dress up with them you dont have to acceppt the candy its just the thought that count that you dressed up too and had fun doing it.

Glad to see this piece of Hamlin. I agree that anyone over 12 should not be allowed to trick-or-treat. I hand out candy every year and I get sick of older people (even over 30, I'm sure!) trying to bum candy by trick-or-treating when they're over the age limit. I also agree that if the child is too little to eat the candy, the parents shouldn't be out trick-or-treating for them! I always give adults and adults with children too little to eat candy just one piece, while people the right age get more. :)

I am a parent who takes my kids trick or treating every year. I agree with the poll results that after 13 kids are just too old to go, but also there are some parents who take there tiny little two, three, and four month old babies who can't even eat the candy yet. I think these parents need to be turned away and if the older kids want treats give them haloween pencils!!
