Eleven miners were working on the mantrip when it jumped the tracks and crashed. Seven of the miners were taken to the hospital.

A mine safety spokesperson tells WSAZ.com five of the men returned to work Monday night and another will be back at the mine Tuesday. The seventh miner will remain off the job while he recovers from a back injury.

Jama Jarrett also tells WSAZ.com state and federal regulators are at the mine Tuesday looking at the piece of equipment that caused the accident.

Jarrett says the investigators will test the equipment to see if there was a manufacturing error.


Update from 6 p.m. Monday

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- We're learning more about a mine accident that injured seven miners.

The accident happened late Friday night at the Round Bottom Mine in Boone County, which is near Sylvester. Mine safety officials said the miners were on a Mantrip when it jumped the tracks and crashed.

It is still not clear if the miners were starting or ending their shift. Some of their injuries were serious but not life threatening.

It happened at the Round Bottom Mine near the town of Sylvester during a shift change Friday night.

It's still not clear how the accident happened.

Dispatchers say the injuries are not life threatening.

Want an update?? The breaks went out and so did the backup breaks. 1 guy had a broken his back 1 guy had staples 1 guy sprained his knee and ankle and the others were just bruised and banged up all because of equipment that was not maintained properly. NOTE TO MASSEY CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT ON A REGULAR BASIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED!!!!

Any names yet or word on their condition? My prayers are with them. My cousin was just killed Wednesday night in the mines. Our hearts pour out.
