HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police say they have arrested six people on drug charges and warrant violations during separate traffic stops in Huntington Wednesday afternoon.

Police say one person was arrested in the 16-hundred block of Doulton Avenue; three other people were arrested in the 19-hundred block of 9th Avenue.

Officers then arrested two other people following a traffic stop in the 22-hundred block of 8th Avenue. A K-9 unit was called to the scene. Investigators say both men were arrested after a search of their van.

Police have not released the names the six people arrested.

I'm one of the so-called "Meter Maids." We prefer to be called Parking Meter Patrol. Maybe we should start calling miners "Coal Dust Fairies." Josh, if you don't want a parking ticket, put change in the dang meter!

Ive seen alot of negative comments about HPD and its officers. First, how can we as citizens of this city complain about the increase of crime and drugs and then turn around and complain about HPD doing their job? Despite someones opinion about HPD we have to realize that crime and drugs are on the increase in this city, however as responsible citizens we must take into consideration what our city law enforcement has to work with. A limited amount of funding and resources with an increase in crime! Maybe those in charge should be more concerned with attracting people and businesses to downtown! Maybe the fact you see more Meter Maids than actual Police in downtown huntington says something about the priorities of those in charge. The amount of fines accumulated by the city in meter fees in one day would pay a months wages for at least one police officer. Which would you rather have? One meter maid or one Police Officer?

More Drug Rehabilitation is simply not the answer, if someone isnt serious about getting clean then you could have 100 rehab centers and the problem will still exist. I also hear alot of negative thoughts and comments about HPD and their officers, considering the current situation within the city they are doing the best they can do, its not the officers fault crime and drugs are increasing, lets look at what they are givin to work with, limited amount of officers without a budget for improvement. How can people complain about HPD not doing their job and then bash them when they do. And lets not pretend that rehab centers are the solution to the drug problem in Huntington. The problem is convincing those in charge to provide the Huntington Police Dept with the manpower and resources to do their job with effectiveness. Lets all ask ourselves, could the city use a few more officers on the street or new sidewalks on fourth ave?

Old Professional, I thought I made it clear that I only did this to this cop that was in my face yelling. I was quite respectful of the others. If I had started yelling in his face I would have probably been hit with a nightstick or something. Old Pro, were you the cop yelling for no reason? If so, hope you enjoyed my pills and cell phone you took and didn't inventory or charge me with.

In response to Little Bity John, I didn't comment on mobile phone use because it had nothing to do with this article. I sense anger and hatred in you, Johnny. I assume since this article concerned law enforcement, you became angry. Is this because you have lived in the underbelly of scum for so long you can't converse with decent citizens? So Little Johnny, go back to your gutter and pick on someone in your world because with me you are totally out of your league.

More Rehabs? What they need is God--put your faith in him---and a little will power these kids could kick the habit...they want to do it..they like the high and believe me they LOVE the money they are making...

So, as I said, I had to wait another week for court and hope and pray that he didn't find me. Well, do you think he showed up for court the 2nd time around?? NO! Do you think he got arrested? NOPE! We aren't just talking about your average joe either. This guy had a criminal record a mile long including shooting at a police officer and other stalking and harrassing charges which I didn't know about during the month that we were seeing one another. So you ask me why I hate the police departments around here? There's your answer. Why don't they lock real criminals up instead of someone that wants to do drugs and endanger their own life? The HPD is worthless and Skip Holbrook only worries about eating his donuts and seeing how much media attention he can get!

Shea,I hope your comment made you feel better and that you are happy that you got to tell me where I live and what kind of a background I have. Let me just tell you I DON'T live in the projects, i HAVE NEVER been arrested, and finally, i am not a loser! I personally despise the HPD and all the other police departments in this area and I think i have good reason to! I have been in two car accidents and sat there for 3 hours and waited for a cop to finally show up. My worst experience, however, was that I was in an abusive relationship. When I finally got away from him I went and filed a restraining order against him. My ex never showed up for court and do you think that anyone went and arrested him for not showing up at court? NO! In fact they came up with a lame excuse that they had lost the paperwork and they would have to serve him the order again. Let me just tell you that he was a dangerous person and to know that I had to wait another week to come back to court, didn't help at al

the problem will never go away as long as their are addicts. more drug rehab needs to be done. HPD does what they can do, but If you don't fix the addicts behavior they will just find more drugs and the cycle continues.

Hey Pablo, you forgot too mention cell phones, are you slipping or just getting tired of your own bs.

Posted by: Heather on Oct 17, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Oh and Bill- think before you speak. When you write a letter (which I have MANY times) to HPD, you get a Dear John letter back. Why keep wasting MY time when kids can't even walk the streets here when HPD won't even gratify you with an actual personal letter addressing your situation?

Posted by: Heather on Oct 17, 2008 at 12:00 AM
I detest HPD and have never been arrested! There have been multiple instances in my neighborhood where they haven't done their job. (1) A child was and still is being neglected-cops showed up and done NOTHING. (Father works at flapjacks and they must get free food) (2) A neighbor's attack dog was loose and attacked 2 children ages 4or5 and 8--they didn't come for 3 days and done NOTHING to the owners. The children's parents do not have the means to pay for a lawyer and the children were in their OWN YARDS. (3) Hoodlums threatened to break in and attack a man--cops were called 2 hours before it escalated to that and they NEVER SHOWED even after the man who was attacked called. (4) There was break in--detective never came. (5) There was fight and the detective had the agressors press charges against the VICTIM! A guy and a girl beat up another girl and they charged the girl defending herself. So please, HPD rarely does their job. And Fed UP-just because you apply doesn't mean you're hired

gettin tired of hearing about crack heads catch them all ,and do smthing about it ,dont let em out on bail, that doesnt cure a thing

Posted by: Old Professional on Oct 16, 2008 at 01:31 PM
Ron - apparently you need to spend more time attending bible class. Why did you give such "cute" answers? Were you trying to provoke the officers? Our police force should be commended for their work. Thank heaven for these fine men and women.

For your information, i've lived on my block (1600 block of doulton) for my whole life and that makes me worthless? i've never been in jail, infact, never even had a run-in with the law. why don't you come over my way and live for a couple days and just watch the police ride up and down the street all day everyday, not arresting a single person. For some strange reason, HPD was actually getting out of their rides and...taking pictures of people?? for what? Justice? naaa. Their boss must have promised them snacks back at the station or something. Until you see what HPD DOES NOT do, don't judge the people from over this way. If they would take some of these crackheads to jail for more than 24 hours, it may not be as bad around here.

hpd congrats. job well done,, and for you cry babys here complaining those thugs got what was do them. bet they were all your friends ! put them under the jail and toss away the keys.

I enjoyed your post, Ron. Like most professions, there are some jerks in law enforcement. You seem to get one that night. But generally most law enforcement people are some of the best people you'd ever meet. They have a difficult task, which they usually handle in a top-notch fashion. But sometimes they may forget that most of us are decent citizens when they have these alcohol check points and suspect us of varied violations of the law. Perhaps this is natural after years on the job, after being lied to, cursed, spit on and even hit as they serve and protect. Sometimes even worse things are done to them. So, I always try to give cops the benifit of the doubt. If they are a little "rude" I overlook it. After all, we all have bad days. Cops are no different. I'll feel better when in Huntington now that Huntington P.D. have removed some of the scum. Thanks Huntington P. D. for an outstanding first class job. May God keep you safe.

I agree with you Jenn.

You could set a road block on Hal Greer and arrest half of Huntington on drugs and warrants.

good job HPD thank you for all that you do and you do it well.

They grabbed my cell phone and dialed my last called number and asked the person if had truly been to bible class. After they got an affirmative on that one they ended up taking the cell phone for no reason. I had a prescription for the medicine, but had it in another bottle. Writing the pd would not do any good since the "evidence" would only turn up missing. The pills probably ended up in the cops nose that night.

Posted by: ron on Oct 16, 2008 at 12:30 AM
they suspected me of dui. I passed a breathalyzer. I was coming back from bible class. I drifted over the center line while changing cds. They had a reason to pull me over. I'm not denying that. They didn't have a reason to suspect me of dui in my opinion. I consented to the breathalyzer and passed it. They shone a light up my nose to see if I had been using pills I guess. No luck there for the cops. It was 5 state troopers. 4 were cool, one was being the "hard cop." I ignored his berating of me and only answered the cops who were being respectful. The mean cop found a bottle of xanax in my car and asked what it was. I said "a bottle." That made him mad. He called poison control to identify the pills. He found out they were xanax and commented that on the street they were known as "monkey bars." I feigned ignorance and said that I did not take medicine meant for monkeys. I was charged with 6 offenses, which were all dismissed. I wasn't charged for the pills since the cop took them.

Blah, blah, blah. You're a bunch of cop lovers. They're all worthless.

GOOD JOB HUNTINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT!!! SOME OF YOU PEOPLE KILL ME. YOU CAN GET ON HERE AND CRITICIZE THE POLICE AS WHATEVER. BUT YOUR QUICK TO CALL THEM WHEN YOU FALL AS VICTIM TO A CRIME. WHY IS THAT? IM LIKE "fed up" THAT POSTED ON HERE. HPD IS TAKING APPLICATIONS NOW, GO FILL ONE OUT. GO SEE IF YOU CAN DO ANY BETTER. YOU WOULD NOT PASS THE HIRING PROCESS. GRANITE THERE ARE CROOKED POLICE OFFICERS JUST LIKE THERE ARE POLITICIANS,DOCTORS AND SO ON. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THESE GUYS FACE DAILY. PEOPLE GET ON HERE AND SAY THIS AND SAY THAT. MAKING COMMENTS THEY DIDNT TAKE INVENTORY AND THEY DIDNT DO THIS AND THAT. I BET YOU WISH YOU WERE AS SMART AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. INSTEAD OF POSTING THIS STUFF ON HERE TYPE A LETTER AND SEND IT TO THE POLICE DEPT WITH YOUR ACCUSATIONS OF SUCH. LET ME GUESS "RON" YOUR INNOCENT AS EVERYONE THAT IS GUILTY ALWAYS SAY. YOUR A BORDER LINE GENIUS

Posted by: shae on Oct 15, 2008 at 06:11 PM
To anon,Jenn, and ron, all 3 of you probably live in that area and I'm sure are worthless yourselves. The only ones that ever talk bad about the police are the ones who have been arrested, because your losers anyway.

Posted by: someone on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:38 PM
DANG sounds like alot people out here againest the cop, from my exsperince cant say I blame em but was never nothing around here sad LOL

Posted by: fed up on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:14 PM
If you don't like the job HPD does, then apply, they are taking applications. Wait, most of you complaining couldn't pass the drug screening. Get over it, they do a job no one else wants to do and they do the best they can with little or no support. Most people don't want anything to do with the police until they need them. I for one am happy they busted these scum. I hope they get more off the street. Way to go HPD !!

Posted by: anon on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Bet HPD parties tonight! They take inventory but dont always write it on your inv. sheet when your arrested. had a friend lose a cell phone and $215 in $1 bills. he collected them through out the year with change and they didnt report it on the sheet he never got it back and cop denied having it. Went to HPD HDQTRS and called the arresting officer 4 times. He was dismissed of DV charge so why wasnt the money returned, it wasnt drug related. HPD is simply crooked, as crooked as George Bush....

Posted by: Jenn on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:26 PM
Well I guess HPD wants a cookie! HPD is worthless!

Posted by: you go hpd on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:11 PM
way to go HPD get them all!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Joker on Oct 15, 2008 at 02:51 PM
I live less than a block from there and I'll bet money it's drug related

Posted by: ron on Oct 15, 2008 at 02:39 PM
They took my cell phone and bottle of pills and pocketed them. I wasn't charged with anything. Shouldn't they inventory that stuff? Oh, forgot. They are users too.
