CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)-- Going Green is now even fitting into your holiday routine as more and more energy efficient products hit the market.
The big trend lately has been LED lights, now holiday decor is using the technology.
LED holiday lights use 80% less energy, they can last for years and some companies even offer a replacement policy if they burn out during the holidays.
The demand for these types of products has grown over the years.
" It's becoming kind of a standard now that everyone is wanting to do the right thing and go green and save money by doing just that," said Lowe's Store Manger Charlie Wade.
Going with "green" decorations can be pricey. A 50 count set of LED lights runs around $10 while the standard lights can cost under $3.
" Initially they are a little bit higher priced, but in the long run they basically last forever," said Wade. "They give such a saving on energy that it more than offsets the initial price of them."
For many customers just learning about their new options is good news.
"I like the idea of saving energy cutting costs on that instead of coming back to exchange a cheap pair of lights that didn't work to begin with or only half of them work," said Jonathan Wilkinson.
You can even help out the environment when it comes down to the tree you choose. With live trees you can buy one you can replant.
"They're easy to take care of," said Donald Farley of Lilly's Landscaping. " When you take them in the house if you have a big bowl just put in two to three inches of water and they do real good."
Then when spring comes you can plant the tree and remember your Christmas for years to come.
Even if you go with a rootless tree you can still help out the environment. The Capitol Market will be collecting old Christmas trees on January 3rd. The trees collected will go into local lakes to serve as habitats for fish.

it's always about volume. No one light saves that much on electricity, but multiply that time the billions of lights put up at christmas, and the savings in coal, oil, etc. becomes astounding. Just look at what cities are doing with traffic signals. The new LED lights will save Huntington alone about $150,000 a year on an electric bill
