CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia's senior senator is out of the hospital, and Saturday night he was at Appalachian Power Park in the form of a thousand small statues.
The first thousand fans who showed up at the gate got to keep the bronze statues of Senator Robert C. Byrd.
A Power spokesperson says the statue was picked from several different sketches and molds. It's a little piece of history people were really hoping to get their hands on.
"I think it's beautiful,” St. Albans resident Allison Hager said. “I've always been a fan of his. I think he's done our state great, and I think he has a few more years left to serve us."
A few visiting soccer players from New Jersey were on hand to take in the game, and they said they were thrilled to get the Byrd statues.
“We're here on the 4th of July, and what are the chances that we get a statue of the longest serving senator in the United States?” Matt Metzler said. “I'm amazed that I can take this home as a souvenir. It’s awesome.”
The Power game Saturday night was rescheduled because of rain. They'll play Sunday at 5 p.m.
Latest Comments
Whats the matter WSAZ, are you a bit biased against any comments that do not praise Byrd? Twice now, I have said that I am sick of hearing about Byrd and that I would like to see someone new in office but it mysteriously never gets posted.
As if naming all new bulidings, Dam's and Bridges is not enough.
Yeah, I admire these democrats who support politicians and policies that are bringing an end to our industry here...way to go guys!
