Update on 7/13
SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Summer campers in Putnam County are back at Camp Happy Valley.

The Salvation Army organizes the camp and closed it last week after two campers were diagnosed with Influenza A. 150 children in all were sent home.

Workers spent last week cleaning up and airing out the camp. They say canceling the activities was the safest thing to do.

Organizers say all the children returned this week.

Original Story on 7/6
SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Concerns over the swine flu have prompted camp leaders at Camp Happy Valley in Scott Depot to close for the week.

The decision was made at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The camp director, Cresson Smith, tells WSAZ.com half of the staff is suffering from flu-like symptoms and at least two of the campers.

Doctors are calling it Influenza A, but the parents of the two children are getting them tested for the swine flu.

The camp will be closed the rest of the week so it can be thoroughly cleaned.

More than 150 kids were expected to attend Camp Happy Valley this week. The camp will notify parents by mid-week on whether the week will be rescheduled.

The camp is expected to re-open on Monday.

That camp is a dirty, nasty place to begin with so it doesn't surprise me that a virus like this made it out there.

This is more than influenza A it is swine flu. My son had he nasal swab to prove it. H1N1 is a type of Influenza A. This should just be admitted so that people get the treatment they need.

This camp should have been closed when the first campers got sick with flu-like symptoms and it has been confirmed by nasal swab to be H1N1. My child was not well when he came home last friday. Someone must have gotten sick earlier in the week. While I do believe that they could not have seen this coming I do think that with this particular flu going around it is better to disappoint a few kids than to have them all sick. I would like to see the numbers of confirmed cases from this camp and are all campers being treated prophylactically.
