SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The driver of a car was killed, his passenger seriously injured after an accident Monday morning in northern Kanawha County.

It happened at about 12:35 a.m. on Sissonville Drive near Derricks Creek Road.

Lieutenant B.C. Stover with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department says 56-year-old Oral Rardon of Sissonville was driving north on Route 21 and lost control around a curve, causing his car to flip over several times and land in a field.

Both Rardon and his passenger, 31-year-old Christopher Young of Sissonville, were thrown from the car.

Rardon was pronounced dead at the scene. Young is in critical condition at CAMC General.

Lt. Stover says alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Drinking and driving and not wearing your seatbelt is very dangerous and shows no regard for the safety of yourself or others.

Chris Young is having surgery on his hip tomorrow. His hip & leg were both crushed & they had to give him 2 pints of blood. Luckily, the internal bleeding has stopped and he is stable enough for surgery.
