HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- By the time you read this story, two people will have been newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It's a crippling disease of the nervous system that affects nearly 500,000 people nationwide.
The disease is as diverse as the people who have it, and a new project promises to share some of their stories.
"It's like a 10-week reality road trip," film producer Kate Milliken said.
She and filmmaker Jason DaSilva are getting ready to hit the road cross country, and you're going to tell them where to go.
"Each week, you’ll have three stories to choose from," Milliken said. "You choose the story you like best, and we’ll go there and do the story."
The project is called "We Keep Moving." You can follow along by going to wekeepmoving.org on the Internet.
Jody Knight knows all about life with MS and living triumphantly with it. She was diagnosed with MS eight years ago.
"I started having blindness and I couldn’t see anything in front of my face," she said. "Then I had numbness in my hands and face."
But the mother of three has made exercise a cornerstone of her treatment. She even leads an exercise class for others with MS and is amazed by the results.
"We've seen people come in in a wheelchair and eight months later, they’re on a walker," she said.
Milliken said, "The world is moving forward. People with MS are moving forward. There are so many new advancements and treatments out there; it’s not a death sentence."
Milliken and DaSilva know that firsthand because both have MS.
Like them, Knight knows regardless of what may come, she will continue to move forward.

Locally, for National MS Awareness Week, Knight and the Huntington chapter of the National MS Society are planning an awareness day from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Pullman Square in downtown Huntington. The annual walk will take place Sunday, May 16, at Ritter Park in Huntington.
