CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection will hold two public meetings on proposals to set pollution limits in the Cheat River watershed.
The so-called Total Maximum Daily Loads are designed to keep a stream from becoming overly polluted by various substances.
The DEP has determined that several streams fail to meet water quality standards and a TMDL plan must be developed.
The agency is developing TMDLs for fecal coliform bacteria, aluminum, iron, manganese, pH and biological impairments for selected streams.
The first meeting will be next Tuesday at the Camp Dawson Armed Forces Reserve Center in Kingwood at 6:30 p.m. The second is set for next Wednesday at Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, also at 6:30 p.m.
