CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A lot of people don't know there is actually a regulation on how much bait you can have without a receipt.
We're going to go over that today and show you some baits; also the amount you can have and the receipts you should keep on you to keep you out of trouble with the DNR.
Many people use a basic minnow trap in order to live bait in the stream. Now I remind you that you still have to have a West Virginia fishing license in order to catch bait. Once you do catch bait you can only have fifty of whatever bass minnows or crappie minnows that you catch out of the streams.
If you do have a lot of people going with you or you have more than fifty of bass minnows and so forth and you have to buy more, make sure when you go down to your local bait shop that they give you a receipt for them. This way, if you do get questioned on how many you have in your possession, you have a receipt showing that you actually bought them from a bait shop.
Now remember, if you have more than fifty bass minnows or shiners or something, make sure you have a receipt. Enjoy the water, be careful and we'll see you outside.
