SUMMIT, Ky. (WSAZ) -- In Boyd County, the clerk’s office is combining 9 precincts into a primary super site for the May 20th primary.

The ballot box move to the Kyova Mall will affect about 8,500 voters.

People who usually vote at the El Hasa Shrine Temple, the Boyd Nursing and Rehab Center and the Boyd County Middle School will now cast their ballots at the Kyova Mall.

Debbie Jones is the county clerk. She said the precinct consolidation will save money, improve efficiency, and test the county's emergency contingency voting plan, “The Kyova Mall is our back up. This will do two things, test our contingency plan and save some money for taxpayers.”

Jones said if this pilot program works well in the primary, they will likely continue using the Kyova Mall in the general election.

Finally a county clerk with some sense has a plan that will help in more ways than one. Maybe others will learn and follow her example.

I think this is awesome and this should be done in more locations. I know the schools in WV will be closed and they only use the hallways for the voting. Lets move the voting to the gymnasium or to other public locations like the mall for voting.
