Charleston, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It was down to the very last precincts before Kanawha County School Board president Jim Crawford knew if he would have a second term. In the end Crawford and newcomer Robin Rector tied the race for the non-partisan spots on the Board. Each candidate received 12,321 votes. Incumbent Barbara Welch was close behind with 12,153. County Commissioner Kent Carper says in the end, this is a race that could change with provisional ballots.

The Kanawha County School Board Excess Levy got the go-ahead from voters. More than 24,000 people voted in favor of the levy. The five year excess levy will give the schools $44 million dollars a year.

Another neck and neck race was in the 31st District. Long time incumbent Carrie Webster just barely hung on to her lead over Mesha Poore. At one point the race was split down the middle. In the end, Webster pulled out the win with 1,686 votes to Poore's 1,568. Webster will return to her seat in the House of Delegates. No Republican opposes her in the Fall.

Other incumbents in Kanwaha County had a good night. In the race for the 30th District- all elected incumbents will face off with a Republican challenger in the fall. Dave Higgins, who was appointed to his seat when Jon Amores took another job within state government, didn't make the cut for a bid in the General Election.

In the fall, only two Republicans will be on the ballot for Kanawha County Magistrate. In all ten will be elected. Republicans Carol Fouty and Adam Knauff will run against former magistrate and Democrat Jack Pauley, Ward Harshbarger, Pete Lopez, Kim Aaron, Joe Shelton, Tim Halloran, Traci Carper-Strickland, Julie Yeager, Marva Crouch, and Paris Workman. Pauley was the top Democrat vote getter among magistrates in his bid to return to the bench. He ran unsuccessfully for sheriff four years ago.

Former 30th District Delegate Corey Palumbo is making a run for the State Senate. He will face Republican Challenger and Clendenin Mayor Bob Ore in November after an easy primary win Tuesday night. Vic Sprouse previously held the seat in the 8th District. He decided not to run again.

The race for Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney is now underway. Democrat Bill Murray faces Republican Mark Plants in November.

Why do you like Pete Thaw? Because as you said, "he tells it like it is", Wow, that's a really good reason to like someone who is supposed to be looking out for the welfare of the children in Kanawha County. He is on the Board of Education to ensure that children in this county are provided with the highest level of education possible in a safe, secure learning environment instead all he does is as you put it "tell it like it is", when actually what he is doing is talking trash about every other board member which is unprofessional and not ethical and mumbles everytime someone talks and no one can understand a word he says, he's an idiot. We will defeat Pete in 2 years!

I like Pete Thaw. He tells it like it is. I agree with GW parent SAHS Class of 82 about Cageball Crawford. We all know how his son magically became VP of GWHS.

To the voter who said "more property tax...when will this state ever learn". Do you know anything about the levy? Your property tax will remain the same as it has been, no change. Check with every state around WV and see what they pay in property taxes. When will voters like you ever learn to do your homework and get your facts straight or maybe you listen to Pete Thaws rhetoric...poor you. He's against anything that works to benefit the children...go to a board meeting and watch him...he looks miserable!

It's a sad day for the children in Kanawha County, Barbara Welch brought balance and fairness to the Kanawha County School Board, she cared about children and that showed in her weekly visits to schools in Kanawha County, some of which had not been visited by any board member in years...she will be missed by the children, the administration and the staff of Kanawha County Schools. Thank you Mrs. Welch for your dedication to Kanawha County Schools. Mrs. Rector good luck with your ABC's and you too will be held "A" for accountable!!! And to Mr. Thaw your in for a tough campaign the next time around, people are sick and tired of you sarcastic, negative remarks!!!

Finally, some help for Pete Thaw!!! Too bad we didn't get rid of "Cageball".

It is a shame to see Barbara Welch lose a seat on the Kanawha County Board of Education. She was always the voice of reason to Pete Thaw's screams and rhetoric.
