COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Ohio Governor Ted Strickland just recently endorsed Barack Obama for president. However, he's not ready to join the campaign as a potential vice presidential candidate.

In an interview broadcast on National Public Radio Tuesday, Strickland said the following about the possibility of being Obama's running mate.

"If drafted, I will not run; nominated, I will not accept; and if elected, I will not serve," Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said.

Strickland endorsed and campaigned for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, but switched his support to Obama after Clinton dropped out last Saturday.

Yeah, I suppose. ;-)

Well Sue, better agree to disagree. Thats the beauty of politics. He may be from the rural end of the state, but he has big city wrote all over him.

Thank gooodness. The democratic party is in enough trouble.

To Buckeye..I suspect you are a state employee, by that statement. If you are and you've lost your job, I'm truly sorry. I'm retired, and I live in southern Ohio. This part of Ohio has always been overlooked and he is for ALL of Ohio. When a governor is for ALL people that is a stark difference than any other. I think the tax payer has already been hit by the high prices on everything. AND it was not from Gov Strickland's doing. That has snowballed over the last 7 yrs. I'm glad we have someone of substance working for us. As time goes by and things needs adjusted, I'm sure it will be addressed.

governor strickland was my rep before becoming governor and let me tell you he promises anything and everything just to get elected then seems to always forget what was promised.a typical liberal democrat.for several years strickland promised to complete the chesapeake bypass as of this date it is still not completed (hardly even started)i am not talking 1 or 2 or even 3 years i am talking decades.he like other politicians say just what they think you want to hear so you will vote for them or keep them in office.I say bring on the term limits clean out then senate and the house then we can have real change

Posted by: BUCKEYE on Jun 12, 2008 at 04:09 PM
WELL "TRUTH" YOU MUST BE WRONG, HE HAS A MINORITY IN ALMOST EVERY SPOT IN HIS CABINET, AND TO "SUE" YOU MUST WORK IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR, BECAUSE HE IS KILLING THE STATE EMPLOYEES..... HEY TED... YOU CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH WITH SO MANY PEOPLE... WHATS YOUR EXCUSE GOING TO BE WHEN PRODUCTIVITY AND TAX PAYER SERVICE TAKES A HIT???

I don't think Gov Strickland really likes BHO. He has to change his support from Hillary to BHO because Hillary lost and he has to side with the other democrats.

I'm voting for the one that will keep this country safe.Go McCain!!!

Posted by: Ryan on Jun 12, 2008 at 02:15 PM
How convenient. Support one, then switch when they drop out. Why would you support Obama when you were first supporting Mrs. Bill Clinton? Nice flip/flop.

Hey HerdFan35, Byrd DID endorse Obama!

Posted by: Sue on Jun 11, 2008 at 09:42 PM
Gov. Strickland is the best governor Ohio has ever had. I'm soooooo glad he will not accept any offer to lure him away from our wonderful state. He sees the need for honest leadership for Ohio to prosper. Thank you Gov. Strickland for being there for us. We need you here.

Hey Issac, do you need for me to call the WHHHAAAAmbulance? Or would you like some cheese to go with your whine?

Posted by: HerdFan35 on Jun 11, 2008 at 02:46 PM
That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If anything, Byrd would not have supported Obama..he's a former KKK member!! If you can say that our officials do not support Hillary bc she is a woman, then I can say that the citizens do not support Obama bc he is black. Maybe people are smart enough to choose who they want to vote for based on the issues, not on stereotypes.

Posted by: Methuselah on Jun 11, 2008 at 01:59 PM
Issac, you are probably a chick. You complain that your elected officials used their individual (not tied to the state) votes and endorsed Obama, but fail to realize the other superdelegates in the nation went with the choice of their states and it overwhelmingly was Obama. Don't forget that Obama had the lead in the delegate vote as well. Hillary was too overconfident in the beginning and that is where she lost. She hired a drama coach and was able to fool some of you into believing she was blue collar. Her campaign leaked stories that Obama was a terrorist, was born in another country, was Muslim and then when that was all proven wrong showed choice video clips of Obama's pastor giving a speech that makes perfect sense in context. If you don't think people in this area are bitter and cling to their guns then you haven't been out and about in WV anytime recently.

Stickland is a racist!

Posted by: Ty on Jun 11, 2008 at 11:53 AM
LOL, Isaac, I agree. The "older" generation does not want a woman in the White House...err, well, maybe in the kitchen of the White House. Anyway, a few decades ago, Byrd would have donned his white sheet and lynched Obama...now he supports him. Interesting, huh?! Wonder if he had a vision of the fires of Hell to make him change his views of blacks? By the way, I was and am a staunch Hillary supporter. I think she has much bigger... uhhhh, ideas... than Obama. I think we, as Americans, may be doomed in November to more George Bush politics. McCain could not beat Hillary in an election. I feel he could win against Obama, though. Sad, really.

Dr. Strickland was a professor of mine in college. I enjoyed his classes and his knowledge was amazing. Its a shame he wouldn't take the nomination as Vice President; I feel he would bring a calm influence on the White House, and insight of our region to the attention of the nation. The fact that *most* politicians voted for Obama instead of Clinton only proves politicians do what's best for themselves politically, not the constituants who voted them in office.

I hope everyone checks out Obama's, global poverty act, with the UN..to allow the UN to tax us more for foreign aid to Africa. This will chip away at our sovereignty, to allow the UN to tax American citizens! Also, Obama will grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, as we are still losing jobs for our own citizens! He will not see that our border fences are built, and will not support drilling for our own oil, on our own lands! There a 2 others running for Prez.,Bob Barr and Ron Paul, either of them would be better than Obama & McCain!

Posted by: Jenn on Jun 11, 2008 at 08:21 AM
To Isaac: Please don't assume all from our region supported Clinton. I support Obama all the way. I don't think any of these politicians are "going against their own People"- Clinton is out (Strickland had backed Clinton until now-pay attention!). Its time to bring the people together to positive thing happen for our country. McCain is more of the some.

Posted by: Isaac on Jun 11, 2008 at 05:48 AM
It is a shame that no one in our part of the country even wanted Obama as the nom.for democrates but all of are paid elected officals went against us and endorsed him helping put him where we don't want him . I know alot of those pigs like sen.Byrd just didn't want to see a woman as president and that is so wrong as a reason not to endorse her and go against your own people !!!
