PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, brought the "Straight Talk Express" to Portsmouth Wednesday to hold a town hall meeting.

McCain took many questions from the crowd at Portsmouth High School.

McCain says he agrees and disagrees with President Bush, but he says it depends on the issues. McCain talked about small business and called it the job engine for America.

McCain said he could create jobs in southern Ohio by focusing on American energy independence. He wants to build power plants, boost exploration and open up oil reserves.

Southern Ohio is expected to play a large role in deciding which candidate takes the Buckeye state in the fall.

buckeye, I think you used to big a words for bruce 2. these lil bush mccain supporters really make me sick. they like high gas prices and our economy goin down the drain. the only thing the republicain party is good for is reporting on someones affair. I mean they will try and impeach a president for haveing an affair but wont impeach one for starting a war. Sad really people thinkin Obama is muslim, but i bet they have no problem goin to a muslim doctor for a precription of pills. You know I really love my country but I dont wanna see another 4 years of a president that only cares about the same polices of george w. bush. The first president to sell america out to big oil.

To Bruce#2: The people who refer to Sen Obama as "husein" are fear mongering because of ignorance or they are intentionally trying to mislead the uneducated public (a Bush tactic--see Iraq invasion). Sen. Obama's grandfather was a Muslim, and the name has been passed on just like "John Sidney" McCain. Obama's father who left him at age two, broke away from Islam and all religion, but kept the name in the family. Stop corrupting our democracy by making an innuendo that is only meant to deceive the casual voter. Your deceptive intentions are like a disease to democracy, and educated voters are the cure that leads to a strong democracy. We are tired of being deceived by people pushing fear. Why don't you bring some real issues to the table next time?

GO McCAIN, You are the only choice we have, as small as that is. But, we have to go your way, for the HUSSAIN Freight Train, will surely spout hatred for WEST VIRGINIANS again with,,,, QUOTE " They have HELD-ON-TO-THEIR-GUNS and their BIBLES FOR WAY TO LONG..." QUOTE,UNQUOTE..

Buckeye, I wish you could have asked that question too. You bring up a good point.

Let me preface this by saying that I admire Sen. McCain for his service in the military and the Senate. Before the Bush presidency, McCain really was a maverick. I attended the town hall meeting today, and I wish I could have asked this question to Sen. McCain. He claimed that nuclear energy would have a positive effect on global warming (rare admission for a republican) and this was one of the arguments for creating nuclear power plants. However, he also favors new drilling for oil which will in effect increase the rate of global warming. Isn't this a contradiction? I understand that both options will decease our dependency on foreign oil and gas, but I just found it odd to hear him saying he was interested in slowing global warming one minute and wanting to increase the amount of oil in the world market which would accelerate global warming the next minute.

Don't get McBushed again. John McCain is all ready lying to the voters. Bush lied us into war and has never stopped lying. McCain has not supported the troops. He has voted against health care and help for the troops. Just like Bush he did not support the troops in Vietnam Bush dodged Vietnam it is a fact Bush did go AWOL. He should have been in the BIG HOUSE instead of the white house. McCain has FLIPED & FLOPED so many times already he does not know where he stands himself. He said he wants to stay in Iraq 100 years. At a rally he saw a man in the audince with a cap on Vietnam Veteran McCain called on him he ask McCain why he voted so many times aginst helping veterans McCain would not give a straight answer. McCain kept dodgeing around everything but an answer to his questions. How can we trust a man like this to run our country? If McCain had not been over there bombing and killing insocent WOMEN and CHILDREN he woukd not have been in prison. That is what happens when you lie.

Southern Ohio needs good jobs. Good jobs created through energy self-reliance will help not only our area, but the country as a whole, to loosen the energy grip of forgein countries on our economy. I ope that whoever gets elected will help southern Ohio create such jobs. Rob
