CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Yes, West Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and he's running for president.

That would be the Santa Claus of Incline Village, Nev., who legally changed his name from Thomas O'Connor in 2005.

Claus is one of 14 write-in presidential candidates registered with the West Virginia secretary of state's office.

That relatively high number is partly thanks to West Virginia's easy rules for registering: write-in candidates only have to fill out some paperwork and they're done.

Other states make it harder, and barriers to write-in candidates range from requiring running mates to locating people to serve as presidential electors.

Claus is running to draw attention to abused and neglected children. He is registered as a candidate in 16 states.

Maybe Santa would drop BILLIONS of $$$$ into OUR stockings guys, instead of giving more to the idiots who have CAUSED this financial mess we're in. Bush & co want NO cap on Executive salaries after giving these billions to "bail out" Wall Street. 99% of them already make ONE MILLION a month! Hey Santa...all of us here want a million period in our stockings...much less a million a MONTH? Santa's got my vote too! Seems he's got a core base right here on WSAZ with all our comments. GO SANTA! He's got a better cabinet already too - all the elves and reindeer! Mrs Claus would also be a far better female in the WH than the gun-toting chick or the cyborg wife of McCain! I'm all for Santa! Or the Easter Bunny, Cupid, a leprechan, the tooth fairy - ANYONE but either of these two running!

I was looking for a worthy candidate to vote for. I wasn't even gonna vote this time unless there was a "none of the above" category, but Santa sounds good to me!

Haven't we reached our Ho Ho Ho limit for the white house. lol

Hello, Charleston! It's true: I'm a candidate for President! I'm running primarily because Obama and McCain refuse to address the plight of the 2 million children in the U.S. who are abused, neglected, exploited, abandoned, homeless, and institutionalized through no fault of their own. There are 50 million adults (voters) who, as children, suffered from the same political indifference these vulnerable children in dire circumstances do today. Enough is enough! Vote for Santa! Hey, I'd vote for HIM or any of his reindeer and/or elves before I'll vote for EITHER of these inept clowns that are running! Like McCain, Santa's really OLD and senile too because he forgot to bring me anything for Christmas last year!
