CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A Democratic research firm out of Charleston reported Wednesday the race for the presidency is a dead heat in West Virginia between John McCain and Barack Obama.
Rainmaker Media Group gives both McCain and Obama 41% preference according to its poll. 17% either chose not to answer or are undecided.
The poll included interviews with 600 likely voters on October 15th-16th. It has a margin of error of 4 points.
Most recent polls showed the Republican McCain with an advantage of anywhere from 6 to 9 points in West Virginia.
Friday, Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden plans to visit Charleston.
The poll shows a favorability rating for Obama of 45%, ranging from somewhat to very positive. Obama's negatives ranging from somewhat to very negative are at 41%.
McCain's favorability rating is at 47% compared to a 37% negative rating.
By comparison, President George Bush has a negative rating, ranging from somewhat to very negative, of 61%.
