CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Lou Ann Johnson, a long-time aide to United States Senator Jay Rockefeller, plans to retire after nearly three decades of service to the Senator.

Lou Ann Johnson worked for Rockefeller for 28 years, dating back to his second term as Governor of West Virginia.

“Lou Ann absolutely loves West Virginia with all her heart,” United States Senator Jay Rockefeller said in a written statement. “She’s tough as nails, she knows as much about state politics as anyone I’ve ever known, and she has the most overwhelming commitment to service I’ve ever seen. I’ll miss her terribly, but I’m incredibly lucky to have had her by my side for the last 28 years.”

Rochelle Goodwin, Deputy State Director for Rockefeller since 2006, will assume Johnson's role.
