FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A proposal to legalize slots at horse tracks has run out of luck in the Kentucky legislature.

The Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee rejected the measure on Monday.

The outcome was no surprise. Republican Sen. Charlie Borders of Grayson, chairman of the committee, had predicted its demise Monday morning.

The House approved the measure Friday. It would have allowed Kentucky's tracks to install so-called "video lottery terminals" that would feature casino-style games like slots. The proposal had been touted as a means to generate a financial windfall for Kentucky's struggling horse racing industry.

The Senate favors an alternative proposal that would generate money for the horse industry by placing a surcharge on lottery ticket sales.

so, if you live in KY why don't you move out to a state that has gambling? if you don't live in KY why don't you leave our state alone and stop telling us what we should do! love it or leave it.

If people want to gamble, they will. And they do. They go to surrounding states and spend their money. Those states get the beneficial programs directly funded by these funds raised from what? gambling. Why not let them spend their money in their own state and keep the benefits in our state? hmm, there is an idea. No let's keep KY in the dark ages...in the poorest of poor ranking, where more people are on welfare, where our education systems is near the lowest in the country. That's where I want to live!!!
