THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM UNITED STATES SENATOR ROBERT BYRD.

WASHINGTON, D.C….U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., announced today that he has included $2,400,000 million for improvements to Haddad Riverfront Park to legislation that recently became law. The funds will support the city of Charleston’s plan to connect the riverfront to the downtown area.

"Maintaining and improving Haddad Riverfront Park is a top priority for the city of Charleston. The park serves as the center of Charleston’s community celebrations, be it the Friday night concerts or the Regatta festival. By upgrading the facilities, we will ensure that Haddad Riverfront Park will continue to be a great place for West Virginians and visitors alike to enjoy for years to come," said Byrd.

Byrd has worked closely with Charleston Mayor Danny Jones on the planned improvements to the park. The renovations are expected to include installing a canopy system to cover the primary seating areas in the park, creating more boater access areas, and connecting the riverfront with potential private investment in and around the Union Building. The planned renovations will make Charleston’s riverfront an even stronger showcase and economic engine for the city of Charleston.

"Thanks to Senator Byrd’s work to secure this funding, we will be able to make Haddad Riverfront Park more of an attraction for the special events that bring people to our downtown and for people who wish to enjoy the riverfront during lunch or in the evening," said Mayor Danny Jones. "Hundreds of people have been part of our city’s dialog to explore options to improve our riverfront and its connection to our city, and Senator Byrd’s involvement helps us to move forward."

"I am proud to be a part of the effort to make Haddad Riverfront Park an even stronger showcase of Charleston’s beauty. Improving the park will bring more tourists and businesses to the community, and serve as a boost the local economy," Byrd stated.
