THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF UNITED STATES SENATOR JAY ROCKEFELLER.
WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) has announced that the City of Summersville will receive an $858,294 grant and a $2,299,240 loan to improve water service in Nicholas County.
The funding will help provide safe, clean and adequate amounts of public drinking water to families in the Lower Glade Creek Road, Armstrong Road, Tanglewood Road, Maria Estates, Phillips Run Road, Muddlety and Lower McMillon Creek areas as part of the Glade Creek Phase II Water Extension Project.
“I have fought hard to help the citizens of Summersville in this project and I’m thrilled to see that they are receiving funds for water service expansion,” Rockefeller said. “The modernization of water systems continues to be one of the priority issues in West Virginia. Too many residents are forced to rely on contaminated wells, like in Nicholas County where the iron concentrations are too high. I’m always happy to see infrastructure funding made available to help projects like this one in Summersville.”
Senator Rockefeller sent letters in support of funds to both West Virginia Governor, Joe Manchin, and to the past West Virginia USDA Rural Development Director, Robert Steptoe, on behalf of Nicholas County residents.
The grant and loan are being awarded through the USDA Rural Development Fund, and will be used to construct waterline extensions, construct a 100,000 gallon water storage tank and extend water service to approximately 281 potential new customers.
