THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF UNITED STATES SENATOR JAY ROCKEFELLER.

Washington, DC – Senator Jay Rockefeller today released the following statement congratulating Senator Robert C. Byrd for an award in his honor by the National Council for History Education (NCHE) for his leadership in advancing the study of history. Byrd will be presented with this award at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol today by David McCullough, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Medal of Freedom recipient, and Theodore K. Rabb, NCHE Chairman.

“I have always deeply admired Senator Byrd for his dedication to our nation’s rich history. From his early days as a student himself, Senator Byrd found great inspiration in our nation’s Founding Fathers. It’s that inspiration that has driven him to promote our Constitution, the ideals upon which our democracy was founded, and the principles Americans have defended time and again. I congratulate Senator Byrd on this tremendous honor, and I thank him for helping to inspire a passion for learning in so many young West Virginians.”

This is interesting considering Senator Byrd is overseeing the construction of the soon to be open, $621,000,000 politically correct U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, which omits instances of Christian faith in the history of the US and the national motto, "In God We Trust" has been left off of replicas of buildings, podiums, and such. Besides Byrd and Pelosi turning a blind eye to the blatant mangling of our country's history, why do we need a $621,000,000 visitor center at a time when the country is in a financial crisis?
