BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) -- A southern West Virginia lawmaker says he's willing to go jail to stop a proposed toll increase on the West Virginia Turnpike, and he's calling on other opponents to join him.
If the toll hike is approved, McDowell County Delegate Clif Moore says he'll block the Ghent toll plaza with his car on the day the increase goes into effect. The Democrat says if seven to 10 people join the protest, they can stop traffic.
Moore says the toll hike is discriminatory because the state's other interstates don't have tolls.
If adopted, the toll for passenger vehicles would increase 75 cents to $2. The toll for large trucks would go from $4.25 to $6.27. The West Virginia Parkways, Economic Development and Tourism Authority plans to vote on the toll hike June 25.
