CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Gov. Joe Manchin has signed a diverse range of 10 bills into law, touching on everything from alternative energy sources to extra help for third and eighth grade students.
Manchin approved the legislation Wednesday during a morning ceremony at his state Capitol reception room.
Some of the measures are corrected versions of regular session bills that the governor had vetoed because of technical errors. Lawmakers fixed those bills during last month's session for the state budget.
The rest of the measures signed Wednesday were rescued during a special session earlier this month. Those had nearly passed during the year's regular session, but fell just short despite support among lawmakers.
Here is a list of bills signed Wednesday:
- SB 239 – Allowing majority vote for certain metro government approval
- HB 102 – Relating to the allocation of adjusted gross receipts from pari-mutuel racetracks with West Virginia Lottery racetrack table games
- SB 1011 – Relating to post-mine land use development
- HB 103 – Alternative and Renewable Energy Portfolio Act
- SB 715 – Establishing the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Initiative
- SB 1003 – Creating High-Technology Business Property Valuation Act
- HB 2771 – Relating to the West Virginia Alcohol and Drug-Free Workplace Act
- SB 414 – Creating the Governor’s Office of Health Enhancement and Lifestyle Planning
- HB 2877 – Increasing the monetary penalties, removing the possibility of incarceration and adding community service for a minor who misrepresents his or her age when purchasing alcohol
- SB 1001 – Creating critical skills instructional support programs for third and eighth graders
