SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ)- Roads are still slick throughout Southern Ohio but the Sheriff's Department there has lifted any road restrictions. At this point you are encouraged to use good judgement.

A level two warning is in effect for Vinton, Jackson and Scioto Counties in Ohio. Level two means the roads are hazardous and thing before you drive.

Gallia County is on a level one.

This information is from the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness.

There are three levels of snow emergency classifications:

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Drive carefully.

LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.

LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one else should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

Meanwhile, in Charleston, West Virginia, 911 Dispatchers say for the most part the roads are clear. Several minor accidents have been reported, but no one has been seriously hurt. Road crews have been out all day treating the roads. Dispatchers urge drivers to slow down because the back roads are slick.

Maybe the cops in Ironton should listen to their own warnings and slow down!

Late at night I heard ice falling outside on Saturday. The next thing I know, I saw lightning and heard loud thunder. By morning we had about 12 inches of snow. But under it was about 3 inches of ice. It was hard to dig my car out. But the snow was beautiful.

I like the snow, I just don't like to drive in the snow.

Um...I went to work in Huntington, WV this morning and didn't have any problems with the roads. Someone else I work with also lives in South Point and came in a few hours after me with no problems. Maybe they just mean rural South Point and not the part that is right off the highway.

Restrictions ? I know that the emergency road crews have been out & have first hand knowledge of the conditions and it is a nice gesture to advise everyone on how they should prepare for the winter roads & I understand that they reserve the right to close any roadway they feel unsafe but to put out that only essential personal are allowed on the roads that are open & all others are subject to arrest seems to be helping or advising a little to much. Just because a law abiding, tax paying citizen decides they need to get out on the roads should in no way make them subject to harassment or arrest . I don't plan on getting out on OUR roads that us taxpayers provide today anyway but I like to know I do have the freedom to do so if I desire & the risk is all mine that's why I have insurance would not surprise me if the insurance companies are the ones asking the state to keep everyone possible off the roads as to avoid having to pay claims. Either way that's taking it to far.
