CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Huntington High School took a share of the team lead in both the boys and girls divisions after the first round of the Class AAA state tennis tournament Thursday. In Class AA-A, Charleston Catholic's boys and girls teams led their divisions.
In the Class AAA boys division, Huntington and Morgantown are tied with 4 points, followed by George Washington and Hedgesville with 3 points.
On the Class AAA girls side, Huntington and Parkersburg have 4 points, followed by George Washington and Wheeling Park with 3 points.
Charleston Catholic leads the boys AA-A field with 6 points. Wheeling Central is in second with 5 points, followed by Bluefield with 4 points. The Irish also lead the girls AA-A field with 5 points, followed by Bluefield and Petersburg, which are tied with 4 points.
Huntington's Ross Evans won both his matches in Number 1 singles play, 8-0 over Woodrow Wilson's Ryan Moss and 8-1 over Hedgesville's Greg Keiter.
The Highlanders' Darius Hadi won his Number 2 singles match over Morgantown's Tony Deng. The team of Evans/Deng defeated the team of Jarrett/Jarrett from Capital in Number 1 doubles play.
