HUNTINGTON, WV -- With a second place all-around finish at the level 10 national competition, Kayla Williams qualified for the Junior Olympic National Team.
Kalya finished with a 9.625 on the vault for second place, a 9.325 on bars, a 9.475 on beam for third place and a 9.7 on her floor routine. The total score of 38.125 was good enough for second in the all-around competition. Kayla was only one-tenth of a point out of first.
She qualified for Saturday's national competition by winning the all-around competition at the regional competition.
West Virginia is in region seven with Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia and D.C. USA Gymnastics is devided into eight regions representing all 50 states.
Kayla puts in more than 30 hours a week working on her routines and training at Bohzi's Gymn Nest in Huntington.
One of Kayla's coach, Hrabina Spencer said it isn't talent alone that has gotten Kayla to this point.
"Talent is nothing without the heart and the work.. Maybe some of the biggest olympic champions are not the best talent, but they put the work in," Spencer said.
Kayla will leave to train for the Junior Olympics in August.
