MEMPHIS, TN (WSAZ) -- In the ornate lobby of The Peabody Hotel, Conference USA's best football players took center stage, making Peabody's famous walking ducks the secondary story in Memphis.
Coaches and players gathered for the annual CUSA Blitz.
There was the steady diet of questions from reporters about who the best teams in the league are, with the knowledge that it's all an educated guess until the last Saturday in August.
Marshall was represented by Coach Mark Snyder, Tight End Cody Slate and safety C.J. Spillman.
"I'm very excited," Herd Coach Mark Snyder said. "I think the league's wide open, there's no dominant team out there."
Of course the most repetitive query the Herd contingent got from the media was, "who's your quarterback going to be?."
"I think Mark's (freshman Mark Cann) the front runner going through spring," Slate said. "I think it's still wide open though."
Marshall was picked to finish fifth in the East Division of Conference USA, ahead of only UAB.
Mark Snyder stopped short of saying he'd use that as motivation for his team. But he did say "we might be the dark horse this year."
