The West Virginia Power recorded their third shutout of the season, defeating the Rome Braves 7-0 Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Eric Fryer began the second inning with a double and moved to third base on Steffan Wilson's ground out. Logan Schafer sent him home with a sacrifice fly.

Eric Farris scored on a two out single by Caleb Gindl in the third inning to double the Power lead.

West Virginia added two more runs with two outs in the fifth. Caleb Gindl reached first on an infield single, but an errant throw on the play by Richard Sullivan allowed Lee Haydel to score. Zelous Wheeler's single scored Matt Cline, giving the Power a 4-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Haydel, Matt Cline and Eric Farris ripped back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles with two outs.

Roque Mercedes (5-4) delivered a masterful performance to get the victory. He tossed seven scoreless innings, allowed just three hits, fanned nine and retired the final 14 batters he faced. Sullivan (1-2) allowed four runs on eight hits over four and two-thirds and was tagged with the loss. Pedro Lambertus tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief.

The Power improved to 55-46 on the year and 23-9 in the second half with the win. They have a two game lead in the Northern Division. The Braves fell to 37-64 on the year and 15-17 in the second half with the loss.

The Power will finish the four game series against the Rome Braves at Appalachian Power Park on Wednesday afternoon.
