HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Former Marshall linebacker Charlie Tynes told WSAZ's Keith Morehouse this week that former Marshall coach Bob Pruett did not promise him a job when he came to the university.
Tynes called Morehouse this week after an affidavit became public in a court case involving former Marshall compliance officer David Ridpath.
Ridpath was fired in 2003 and is suing the university and Pruett, saying they used him as a scapegoat. Marshall was placed on probation in 2001 after a program that secured jobs for players violated NCAA rules.
An affidavit from Tynes became public in recent days implicating Coach Pruett in the jobs program situation. Some players were getting as much as $25/hour for janitorial work.
Tynes now recants the affidavit he made in this case.
"Coach Pruett never talked to me about a job, never promised me a job. I did work but I never made 200 dollars a day. He had nothing to do with me getting a job," Charlie Tynes told Morehouse.
Tynes tells West Virginia Public Broadcasting that he may have misunderstood what he was signing involving this case. He tells PBS he wanted to help Ridpath, but now wants to set the record straight.
