NEW YORK (AP) - Following its sluggish 26-14 win over Ohio, Ohio State has fallen from third to fifth in the new Associated Press Top 25.
The Buckeyes, who played without star tailback Chris Wells yesterday, will have a chance to move back up in the poll when they visit top-ranked Southern California on Saturday.
The Trojans had the weekend off and got 33 out of a possible 65 first-place votes from a nationwide media panel. Georgia is second with 23 first-place votes. Oklahoma is third, followed by Florida.
Missouri is sixth with LSU, Texas, Auburn and Wisconsin rounding out the top 10.
East Carolina is in the poll for the first time in nine years. The Pirates come in at No. 14 after beating previously eighth-ranked West Virginia 24-3 Saturday. The Mountaineers have dropped all the way to No. 25.
