NEW RICHMOND, W.Va. (AP) - Longtime southern West Virginia high school football coach Andy Grogg has died after complications from heart surgery.

Grogg died last Tuesday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

The 53-year-old Grogg had been a sideline fixture since the mid-1980s. He coached at Greenbrier East, Riverside, DuPont and Herbert Hoover high schools.

For the past two seasons he had been an assistant coach to his brother Kevin's Wyoming East Warriors team.

Wyoming East voted to continue practice and play last Friday's game against Scott. Wyoming East lost that contest 35-14.

Coach Grogg was a wonderful teacher. I had him when he taught @ East Bank High School. He will be greatly missed. Without him I would never have got my driver's license.
