HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University head men's golf coach Joe Feaganes announced today that Nathan Kerns of Ironton, Ohio, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his career collegiately with the Thundering Herd.

Kerns, an Ironton High School product, has collected many accolades throughout his prep career, including being named the 2007 and 2008 Southeast Ohio District Player of the Year. He was selected to the First Team All-Southeast Ohio Athletic League three times and the SEOAL Player of the Year in 2007.

"We are very happy that Nathan has decided to join the Marshall golf family," Feaganes said. "Nathan is not only a strong player, but a good student and a local product as well. He should have an immediate impact on our golf team."

Kerns claimed medalist honors at the Ironton Invitational and Portsmouth Invitational in 2008. He was the OHSAA Division II low individual qualifier for the state tournament in 2008, where he would go on to finish in seventh place. He is a three-time Division II state finals qualifier. His nine-hole season stroke average in 2008 was 36.3.

Further, Kerns was the second alternate at the 2008 U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier. The president of his senior class, Kerns tied the course record at Ironton Country Club (60).
