Marshall Volleyball Adds Two Athletes
Marshall University head volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs recently announced the signing of Ryanne Milligan and Katy Schad to National Letters of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd beginning in 2009.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University head volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs recently announced the signing of Ryanne Milligan and Katy Schad to National Letters of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd beginning in 2009.

Milligan, a 5-foot-8-inch setter from Jasper, Ind., is a senior at Assumption High School in Louisville, Ky. She played for Assumption’s varsity squad in 2007 and 2008 and were the KHSAA State Volleyball Champions in 2007.

Milligan played club volleyball for Kentucky-Indiana Volleyball Academy (KIVA) and her team was Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national champions in 2008. For her effort, Milligan was named an AAU All-American.

Off the court, Milligan earned Honor Roll status during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 academic years. Her intended major at Marshall is undecided at this time.

Fellow Indiana native Katy Schad hails from Floyds Knobs and is a senior at Floyd Central High School. The 5-foot-10-inch outside hitter was a four-year varsity starter and was an Indiana 4A first team All-State selection in 2007 and 2008. During her senior season, she was named to the senior-only Indiana All-Star team.

Schad led the state of Indiana with 598 kills (5.6 kills per set) during her final scholastic campaign, and both are school records. Her 1,502 career-kills are also a school record.

Schad’s KIVA club earned JVDA third-place honors in 2008, and also finished third at the AAU National Championships in 2008.
