Mercer County capped off its perfect season with a 15-to-12 win over Russell in the Class 2-A championship this afternoon. It's the school's first-ever state title.

The Titans held off the defending champion Red Devils by forcing five turnovers on a blustery day at Papa John's Stadium in Louisville.

Cory Jackson ran for 140 yards and a touchdown for Mercer County and Blake Arnold intercepted two passes.

Russell clamped down on Mercer County's record-setting offense, holding the Titans to 196 total yards. The Titans' 15 points were their lowest of the season.

But the Titans survived behind a defense that bent but never broke and came up with big plays when needed.

Kasey Clark did a little bit of everything for Russell. He ran for 78 yards and a touchdown, caught six passes for 114 yards and even came up with a sack on defense.
