The West Virginia Sports Writers Association has named Charleston Catholic senior Mackenzie Maier the Rat A. Thom Award West Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
The six-foot-three senior has led Charleston Catholic to
21-and-two record heading into the state tournament.
Maier averaged more than 20 points and ten rebounds as a
freshman. She followed that by averaging nearly 22 points as a
sophmore and junior. Maier has bettered her scoring average this
year, putting in more than 23 points a game.
Coach Ashley Shepler says Maier has improved her skills,
strenght and stamina every year.
Nex year, Maier has a scholarship to play for High Point
University in North Carolina next season.
