Trustees say they don't want to get involved in Smith decision

LEXINGTON (AP) - Members of the University of Kentucky's Board
of Trustees say they're reluctant to weigh in on the future of head
basketball coach Tubby Smith.
Several members told The Associated Press today that it's a
management decision that should stay with Athletic Director Mitch
Chairman James Hardymon says the board would be crazy to get
involved. He also says the board wants to honor contracts with its
coaches and faculty members. Smith would be due a buyout of around
four (m) million dollars if his contract were terminated.
University president Lee Todd says he plans to sit down with
Barnhart at the end of the year to evaluate the program.
Kentucky plans Alabama Thursday in the first round of the
Southeastern Conference tournament in Atlanta.
