Summers County earned its first girls Class Double-A championship since 2000 with a 67-to-56 win over Winfield today at the Charleston Civic Center.
Top-seeded Summers County avenged a loss to Winfield in last
year's championship game.
Jolysa Brown led Summers County with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
Jenni Wynes scored 16 and Emily Blevins had 13 points and ten
rebounds.
Katie Cloxton had 27 points for second-seeded Winfield. Brittany
Lee was held to five points, a day after she scored 33 in a
semifinal win over Clay County.
Summers County raced ahead 20-to-5 after the first quarter. But
Cloxton scored 18 points in the second as Winfield pulled within
32-to-30.
The Bobcats used several steals after halftime to go on a
15-to-2 run and jump to a 47-to-32 lead midway through the third.
Winfield got no closer than eight points the rest of the game. Winfield lost to Summers County for the third time this season.
