CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Huntington set a record for the most
lopsided win in boys state tournament history tonight, beating
Fairmont Senior 103-to-39 in the quarterfinals at the Charleston
The win broke the margin-of-victory record of 57 points set by
Huntington against Martinsburg in 1961.
Huntington also could have set a record for dunk attempts.
For top-seeded Huntington, Patrick Patterson had 27 points and
eleven rebounds. He missed only one shot attempt. Bruce Senior
added 16 points, O-J Mayo had 14 points and eight assists, and
Chris Early had 13 points.
Zac McCullough led Fairmont Senior with 15 points.
Huntington led 29-to-12 after the first quarter and 49-to-21 at
halftime. Mayo and Patterson sat out the fourth quarter.
Huntington beat Fairmont Senior in the quarterfinals for the
second straight season. Huntington is trying to become the first
Triple-A team to win three straight state titles.
