Generals To State Semi-Finals

Caleb Ashley scored ten points in the fourth quarter to lift Winfield past Lincoln 71-to-61 tonight in the Class Double-A quarterfinals at the Charleston Civic Center.

Fifth-seeded Winfield withstood a 31-point effort from Lincoln's
Eli Cottrill.

Winfield erased a 12-point deficit in the second quarter to tie
the game at halftime, then got five points from Todd Hutchinson to
start the third to take the lead for good.

Ashley's three-pointer put Winfield ahead by 12 early in the
fourth before fourth-seeded Lincoln began a comeback.

Cottrill scored nine points in a four-minute stretch to cut the
deficit to 59-to-56 with 2:36 remaining. But Lincoln was outscored
12-to-5 the rest of the game.

Ashley finished with 24 points and Hutchinson had 21 points and
nine rebounds. Sam Lemmerman had eleven assists for Winfield, which
reached the semifinals for the third time in four seasons.

Joey Farris and Tyler Romeo added eleven points apiece for
Lincoln, which lost in the quarterfinals for the second straight
