LSU 49, West Virginia 43

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - L-S-U rallied from an eleven-point deficit
to beat West Virginia 49-to-43 tonight (Monday) in the second round
of the Fresno Regional in the N-C-A-A women's basketball
tournament.
Sylvia Fowles led L-S-U with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
West Virginia center Olayinka Sanni held Fowles in check in the
first half. But Sanni got into foul trouble in the second half and
had to go to the bench for nearly 12 minutes.
Fowles then took over with eleventh-seeded West Virginia leading
35-to-24. She scored six points in a 12-to-nothing run that saw the
Lady Tigers rally to take the lead 36-to-35 on her layup with 7:58
to play.
West Virginia trailed 44-to-43 when Sanni's last shot rimmed out
in the final two minutes. The Mountaineers missed three shots in a
row and L-S-U slowly built the lead to the final margin from the
free throw line.
Ashley Powell led West Virginia with 13 points.
The Mountaineers haven't advanced to the round of 16 since 1992.
