The NCAA's post tournament game of musical chairs is just about over now, with the top tier of college basketball filling its coaching vacancies. University of Kentucky fans can finally put their Mylanta back into the medicine cabinet. Today the Wildcats named former Texas A & M coach Billy Gillispe as the successor to Tubby Smith.
Gillespie was introduced to the Wildcat faithful Friday afternoon at a press conference in Lexington. Kentucky signs him to a seven year, $2.3 million deal.
Gillispe is hailed throughout college basketball as a great recruiter, and he may not have been Kentucky's first choice but he can certainly coach. In just three years, he took Texas A & M from a cellar dweller to a national title contender.
Today wasn't about his coaching past. All the attention was on his future with the Wildcats. Gillispe says he plans to hit the recruiting trail immediately.
