Versatile Ryan Freel has agreed to a two-year contract extension that ties him to the Reds through the 2009 season.

Cincinnati's starting center fielder also is expected to see
time in the infield before the year is out. He has started at all
three outfield positions and second and third base for the Reds
since being signed as a minor league free agent before the 2003
season.

The 32-year-old Freel hit .271 with 37 stolen bases in 132 games
with the Reds last year. He has led the Reds in stolen bases the
last three seasons.

Freel is batting .243 in 12 games this season.
