HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University men’s basketball coach Donnie Jones announced Wednesday that North Carolina prep standout Tirrell Baines has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd.
“Tirrell is a great kid with an outstanding work ethic and the ability to play an up-tempo style,” Jones said.
Baines, a South Carolina native, was a standout at The Patterson School (N.C.) for the past two seasons. The six-foot-six, 210-pound forward averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game en route to helping Patterson to a record of 36-4 and a berth in the national prep school semi-finals.
Patterson is ranked as one of the top five players in the state of North Carolina by several recruiting services and websites.
“He (Baines) was one of our go to guys and a key to our team the last two years,” Patterson School Head Coach Chris Chaney said. “He plays at a very high energy level and he is a coach’s dream with the energy he brings to the floor.”
